Patty's Story - Path Lighting Would Help

"I walk a lot: I walk for exercise, I walk the dogs, I walk for fun. I like the fact that I can walk to a grocery store within 10 minutes of my house. I live on a multi-use path north of Iris, but it’s not lit, so my teenagers don’t want to walk on the path at night to get to friends’ houses or to get home. It would make a huge difference to have low lighting for safety. I love the paths. We chose to move to Boulder so our kids could walk and bike to school – I didn’t grow up doing that."

Jill's Story - Full Circle

[Story collected at Neighborhood Office Hours, Arapahoe Ridge.]"I began walking because I grew up in a family where my mom didn’t have a driver’s license, so we didn’t have a car. Everywhere we wanted to go, we walked. I got used to it – it was our lifestyle. Later, I fell away from it and became really car dependent. I got back into walking in my 30s and have walked all over Europe, Hawaii, part of Canada, and the continental United States. Walking keeps my head clear."

Ned's Story - The Magic of Martin Acres

It’s a unique neighborhood because it’s a little bit geographically bounded by busy streets, so the people who live there gravitate to the park, and people tend to walk around the neighborhood. There are always people outside gardening, walking dogs, playing with their kids. It’s a natural place to encounter each other. The park is probably the main factor – it pulls people to it as a central space."
